“Having a plan and practicing that plan could very well save your life when that moment strikes, since it always happens when you least expect it,” he said. “The tragedy at Fort Hood illustrates the need for us to be vigilant and prepared to act.”

West Point Antiterrorism Officer Matt Cassidy

“We can never know when that moment might come, but unfortunately we are repeatedly reminded that it’s not a question of if it will happen, simply a question of when and where. The incidents at Fort Hood and the Washington Naval Yard are, first and foremost, tragedies for all involved, however, the lesson and the challenge for installations like West Point are to learn from these tragedies and to prepare more effectively for the fluctuating security environment.”

West Point Military Academy Deploys Network-Centric Emergency Notification System to Reach All Personnel and Cadets – Certified by EM2P

The United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point is charged with the responsibility of educating, training and preparing young men and women to assume leadership roles in all branches of the armed forces. The importance of protecting the installation, faculty and the students is a top priority, so when they needed a highly reliable and robust installation-wide mass notification system (MNS) to alert and account for personnel during acrisis they selected the system that exceeded the Air Force MNS standard by 90 percent and won the 2014 GSA Award for Best Mass Notification System and Best Interoperable Mass Notification System.

The EM2P certified Desktop Alert solution employs the most secure and most reliable sign on technology available, eliminating the need for an additional username and password thereby significantly increases the speed an operator can access and activate the system. This means that in under a minute an operator can go from system engagement to the end user receipt of critical life-safety instructions.

Assignable Alert Activation Icons

Desktop Alert Inc. recently introduced assignable alert activation icons. With a click of the mouse alerts are distributed and delivered to targeted personnel and devices in just seconds. The impact of the assignable alert activation icon is that every computer in the organization can become both a security alerting device and an alert receiving device. No new hardware or infrastructure is needed. Desktop Alert utilizes the in-place information technology infrastructure.

Installing the alert activation icon is a simple drag and drop process. Each icon is linked to a user defined alert scenario. An unlimited number of customized alert activation icons can be created, linked, and assigned to individuals and computers. When activated, alerts are distributed based on the defined scenario instantly delivering the message to recipient devices including computer pop-ups, email, SMS, phone calls, mobile devices, and various other end points.
